Teschner (organ building)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Teschner organ building company was founded in Fürstenwalde in 1825 by Johann Gottlob Teschner (* 1801; † 1875) . His great-grandson Hermann Teschner (* 1928, † 1984) was the last owner, and the company went out with him.

"An instrument maker who dealt with all instruments, but hardly tried to make new ones."

- Willibald Leo Lütgendorff : The violin and lute makers from the Middle Ages to the present

Teschner even offered tools in his instrument making company. For example, the forester Gustav Kielmann ( Forsthaus Hasenfelde ) advertised the tree circle he had invented for measuring the diameter of trees in the Allgemeine Zeitung in August 1841 and emphasized the exclusive distribution by Teschner.

How underestimated the small company was by contemporaries can be seen in the assessment of music director Wieger , who is also organist and choir conductor of the St. Marien church in Königsberg :

"... that I have the g. Teschner got to know as a legal, undemanding, very hardworking man who strives forwards in art. His task in building a small organ with a manual and pedal for a village church near here, which was carried out about 3 years ago, was generally very praiseworthy; because the little work is there in all parts quite permanently, artfully and well worked ...
