Wolf Bergelt

Wolf Bergelt (born October 4, 1951 in Oederan , Erzgebirge ) is a German author, organist and organ researcher .

biography

Bergelt received his first organ lessons from Horst Schröter on the Silbermann organ in the town church of Oederan until he was studying church music in Dresden. He completed his military service as a singer in the Erich Weinert Ensemble Berlin. After that he worked as a music editor while he continued his church music studies in Halle (Saale), where he dealt with questions related to music history, music psychology and instrument studies. From 1975 to 1980 he worked as a cantor and organist in Berlin and Prenzlau . During this time, his first occupation was with the organ heritage of the Mark Brandenburg, which had hardly been developed until then.

Act

Wolf Bergelt has been involved in the inventory and systematic historiographical indexing of the “Brandenburg organ landscape” since 1979, which he tackled from Prenzlau as a district church musician of the Uckermark. Since then he has published numerous publications on the history of organ building in Prussia and its heartland Brandenburg ( see below ). As part of this work, he published regularly from 1983 to 1987 in the traditional instrument making magazine (IbZ) Musik international . In 1989 his first cross-section of development history appeared, Die Mark Brandenburg - a rediscovered organ landscape , which was later considerably expanded in the organ tours through the Mark Brandenburg . In the same year (2005) he launched the reference work Orgel Handbuch Brandenburg, conceived in 15 volumes (now as a complete digital inventory), and in 2009 the Edition Documents of the Organ World .

In 2012 his magnum opus Joachim Wagner - Orgelmacher was published , which is the first comprehensive overview of the life and work of the central figure of Prussian organ building and the congenial contemporaries of Gottfried Silbermann and Arp Schnitger . In this work, Bergelt expanded the life story, the list of works and the work histories of the organs of Joachim Wagner and thus the overall picture of his life and work with essential new knowledge. The work was highly valued in the national and international specialist organ press and beyond. The continuation series Wagner-Geist in the organ building of the pupils aims at the extensive presentation of individual work histories from Wagner's group of pupils.

In the series “ Documents of the Organ World” , Bergelt acts primarily as editor, where - as in Volume 12 - he contributes comments, but also functions as an author. The selection of topics focuses on rare, e.g. Partly rediscovered or endangered sources of particular cultural-historical importance and scientific relevance. In this respect, the series also represents a form of source maintenance and preservation.

In addition to his scientific work, Bergelt is also active as an artist, including the children's audio book The Sounding Queen , the Herzgeist collection of aphorisms , and the Toccata à la harmonica , a compositional homage to the Parisian street musicians.
