Tetracarpaea tasmannica is the only species of plant inthe Tetracarpaeaceae family . This species is endemic to Tasmania .

description

Tetracarpaea tasmannica is a mesophytic , evergreen, upright but low, bushy shrub . The trunk is slender and made of solid wood, it is richly branched ( Leptocaulie ). The nodes are unilacunar with a strand of leaf traces. The stem axis lacks an internal phloem .

The opposite, stalked leaves have a leathery surface. The leaf blade has a feather-shaped vein and the leaf edge is toothed.

The erect, paniculate inflorescences arise from the axils of the bracts . The hermaphroditic, small flowers are four-digit. They have a markedly from the chalice different crown . The sepals are not overgrown, and the white petals are free. Each flower contains eight stamens and four carpels . The filaments are not grown together. Each carpel contains between 15 and 100 ovules .

After flowering, a follicle with very small winged seeds is formed.

Tetracarpaea tasmannica is endemic, the species is only found in Tasmania . There the species grows in moderately moist habitats.

Systematics
