Teutitz or Teupitz is a desert near the town of Bischofswerda in the Saxon district of Bautzen . The manor from 1366 is protected as an archaeological cultural monument .

location

The local desert of Teutitz is located in the north of the Pickau corridor on the eastern slope of the Butterberg near Bischofswerda. Several properties in the village of Teupitz belong to the neighboring Schönbrunn . A large part of the desert is now covered with forest and is owned by the city of Bischofswerda.

history

In 1241 Tutizc, like many other places in the area, is mentioned for the first time in the Upper Lusatian border document . The place has been proven to have been uninhabited since 1412. The place was first mentioned as Teutitz around 1500, in 1586 the name was Teuptitz and in 1791 the Teupitz desert appeared.

Because of the name "Teupitz" a Sorbian settlement is assumed. The cause of the devastation is unknown. The Thirty Years War and a Hussite incursion can be ruled out. It is likely that the land gradually became deserted, as the Teupitzers could not live on its income and therefore moved to the city.

Power relations

Initially belonging to the Upper Lusatian noble family von Kynitsch , Bishop Rudolf handed "Dy wuste dorff stadt Tuxzin" on December 4, 1412 to his captain Heinrich von Bresenicz and Heinrich von Ponkan as a fief. Since 1439, the deserted Mark Teutitz belonged to the von Bolberitz family , who in the 15th and 16th centuries acquired large estates in the episcopal Meissnian part of Upper Lusatia . It is probable that the Mark came into the possession of the family earlier, but in 1439 Hans von Bolberitz is first mentioned as “sat at Pickau” and received “in 1442 'together with his heirs' from Bishop Johann IV. The higher jurisdiction to judge skin and hair 'over Pickau together with accessories and Geißmannsdorf. "

Bishop Johann VI. enfeoffed in 1488 Friedrich von Bolberitz and his cousin Heinrich together with Pickau , Geißmannsdorf and the desolate Mark "Teutiz [...] near Pickau." After the death of Friedrich von Bolberitz, the inheritance was divided in 1492 in such a way that Heinrich got Pickau, Geißmannsdorf and Teutitz . He also acquired the adjacent Schönbrunn. The goods acquired in this way served as personal belongings in 1509 , with which he had his wife Elisabeth furnished. Heinrich's sons, Joachim and Hans, were enfeoffed with their father's property in 1521. The first received Schönbrunn, the second Pickau and Geißmannsdorf. Hans von Bolberitz died in 1540 and his brother bought the debt-ridden Pickau estate. When Joachim von Bolberitz also died, the guardians of his sons sold the estate in 1544. “The city council bought the same thing in 1544 with the gardeners and cottagers, along with the corresponding written [assig] [enden] D [orf] Geißmisdorf or Geißmaunsdorf [note: Geißmannsdorf is meant], 2 farmers from Schönborn [note: Schönbrunn is meant] , including the desert of Teupitz and Scherfling with upper and lower courts from the von Bolberitz around 5200  Meißn. Fl. hereditary."

The manor of the Pickau manor over Teutitz is documented for 1544.

Trivia

Close to the Teupitz desert there is a spring called the "Schusterbrunnen". According to Störzner, its name comes from a nearby house that a shoemaker lived in at the beginning of the 19th century.

The field name “Die Teupitz” has been retained in the name of the former village stream that flows down to Schönbrunn.
