Thaddäus Mayer (Tadeáš Mayer in Czech, born October 20, 1812 in Kaceřov near Pilsen , † 1856 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Czech-Austrian miniature and portrait painter and lithographer.

Thaddäus Mayer received his first painting lessons from his father, the headmaster in Kaceřov. After that he attended high school in Pilsen. After graduating from high school in 1832, he gave drawing lessons to Count Prokop Lažanský's children.

With the Count's recommendations, Mayer went to Vienna, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna for six years thanks to the Emperor's scholarship of 200 florins .

His portraits exhibited at the exhibition at St. Annahof (Vienna) in 1836 brought him success. He was influenced by Moritz Daffinger .

In 1838 he went to Prague, where he settled permanently. From 1843 Mayer also dealt with lithography and opened a gallery of actors in Prague.

Recommended by Archduke Stephan of Austria , Mayer was called to Stettin by Grand Duchess Marija Nikolajewna Romanowa (1819–1876) , and from there went to St. Petersburg with her entourage . In 1852 he returned to Prague. He later moved to Frankfurt am Main.
