The Catholic cathedral survived the bombing and is one of the few buildings in the city that are worth seeing.

The city lies in the belt of the tropical monsoon climate and has four seasons. In the summer from April to November it is usually hot and humid with temperatures of over 40 degrees. If the wind blows from Siberia at this time of year, the values can also be significantly lower. In the cooler months from November to March, average temperatures reach 17 to 20 degrees. The months of December to February have the fewest rainy days and only little rainfall. The rainy season is between June and the end of October. In the main monsoon season from August to October, more than half of the annual precipitation falls.
