action
Cop Conk Adams is suicidal. As a pilot he killed innocents in the Bosnian war, which burdens him heavily. When a male corpse is found by a lake, he and the young archaeologist Catherine Nyland, an expert on bog bodies, investigate the case. Conk's mother is terminally ill and is only kept alive by a ventilator. She is in pain and wishes for death, but Conk can't bring himself to that at first. Finally, he does the deed to redeem his mother. Young Catherine is also seriously ill and suffers from migraine attacks. You and Conk get closer in conversations. They visit the Indian healer Harold to find out more about the cause of death of the bog body. They suspect a healing ritual at the place that is holy and healing for the indigenous people.
In flashbacks to a past life, Catherine sees herself as the wife of the Indian warrior Red Wind, of whom Conk is a reincarnation . In this previous life he drowns her sick daughter to the brink of death in order to heal her in an Indian ritual. She wakes up again and is healthy. Then the Indian sacrificed himself as a thank you for the recovery of his child. He is later found as a bog body. Conk tries the same ritual at the lake with Catherine. After a while, she actually wakes up and is healthy. Conk shoots himself, so he too is released from his torments of conscience.
