The Adventures of Superman

The Adventures of Superman is the title of a US radio play series that was first broadcast between 1940 and 1951. It goes back to the comic hero of the same name, Superman .

The pre-produced series premiered on February 12, 1940 on the New York medium wave station WOR and was initially taken over by ten and eventually by 62 stations. On MBS was Superman from 1942 to 1949 in 15-minute episodes, which were broadcast three to five times per week, presents. The series was later expanded to half an hour of airtime.

The first 19 episodes have individual titles and tell the background of the Superman saga in a very streamlined way. Episode 1 ("The Baby from Krypton") describes the dramatic rescue operation of a toddler who is sent by rocket from his parents to earth because of the destruction of their own planet. During the several years of flight time, Superman grows and arrives on earth as a grown man in episode 2 ("Clark Kent, Reporter"). On the recommendation of the first people he met, Superman decided to become a reporter under the name "Clark Kent" in order to get to know mankind better.

Each episode begins with the jingle that was later adopted by television: “Up in the sky! Look! It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman! "
