Superman is an American animated series from 1988 and produced by Ruby-Spears Productions and Warner Bros. Television . The series is based on the eponymous comic book character Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster , and ran in 1988, the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Superman, the American broadcaster CBS . 13 episodes of around 22 minutes each were produced and broadcast.

The comic book writer Marv Wolfman acted as chief author of the series and developed the series together with the comic artist responsible for design Gil Kane .

content

It was Superman's first post-crisis appearance outside of the comic books, based on changes John Byrne introduced to the comic series in 1986. Lex Luthor, for example, was no longer portrayed as an evil scientist, but as a power-hungry industrialist. The series also includes appearances by the superhero Wonder Woman , based on her design by George Pérez .

The main story in each episode was approximately 21 minutes long, the last 4 minutes being used to describe some biographical details from Superman’s early years in the Superman Family Album , from his adoption as a child to his first public appearance as Superman.

Production and publication

The production for Ruby-Spears Productions and Warner Bros. Television was directed by Cosmo Anzilotti, Bill Hutten and Tony Love. The music for the series was composed by Ron Jones , including a new orchestral version of the classic melody by John Williams from the 1978 film Superman . Additionally, the same monologue was used during the opening sequence as in the 1950 Superman television series.

The series first aired from September 17 to December 10, 1988 by CBS in the United States.
