Krypton is an American television series that is about characters from the DC Comics . The protagonist is Superman's grandfather Seg-El. The series takes place on the eponymous, fictional planet Krypton and about 200 years before the birth of Superman. The series was developed by David S. Goyer for the US cable television broadcaster Syfy . The first season, which consists of 10 episodes, aired on Syfy from March 21 to May 23, 2018. A second season, also with 10 episodes, was broadcast from June 12 to August 14, 2019, after which the series was canceled.

action

Krypton is about Superman's grandfather. In those years the house El, from which Superman later emerged, was desecrated and ostracized. The series follows Superman's grandfather who eventually brings hope and equality to the planet Krypton, frees the planet from chaos and changes it into the planet from which Superman later descended.

background

In October 2014, over a year after the film Man of Steel was released , rumors arose that Warner Bros. was planning a series called Krypton that would involve David S. Goyer , screenwriter for the Superman film. The series is supposed to take place 200 years before the events of Man of Steel on the fictional exoplanet Krypton . In December of the same year it was confirmed that Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics were planning the series for the broadcaster Syfy . Krypton is said to be trading through Superman's grandfather. There are different stories with different interpretations of Superman's home planet in the DC comics. Ian Goldberg and Goyer are responsible for the plot of the pilot episode. Goyer, who is also responsible for the idea of the series, also takes on the role of executive producer for the series with his company Phantom Four . In April 2016 it was announced that Damian Kindler was also called in as a showrunner and executive producer. Colm McCarthy was hired to direct the pilot episode. This was ordered on April 21, 2016, just under a month after the release of the Man of Steel sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice .

In June 2016, the characters that would appear in the series were announced. Not only do families from the El family appear, the family into which Superman is born, but also characters from the Zod family, from which the future villain General Zod emerges. It has also been confirmed that the villain Dev-Em will appear. The main roles are said to have been cast by Cameron Cuffe and Georgina Campbell , who are supposed to play Seg-El and Lyta Zod. Serbia was planned as the filming location for the pilot episode.

On April 18, 2017, the series' first teaser trailer appeared on the Internet. The start of series production was announced for the same year. The following month, however, Syfy tweeted that the series would not appear until 2018. The series order was also officially confirmed in May 2017. Another trailer for the television series was presented at the Comic-Con in San Diego in July 2017.

On December 28, 2017, Syfy announced that it would first air the pilot on March 21, 2018.

In late 2017, Syfy announced that, contrary to the original announcement, Krypton is not part of the DC Extended Universe .

Cast and dubbing

The German dubbing is done by the dubbing company Berliner Synchron GmbH . Werner Böhnke is responsible for the dialogue direction and for the dialogue book .
