Band history

The Baboon Show was founded in 2003 by Cecilia Boström ( vocals ), Helen Lindberg - from 02/2004 ( bass ), Niclas Svensson ( drums ) and Håkan Sörle ( guitar ). The name is based on the Swedish government, which in the eyes of the band behaves like a horde of wild baboons. In May 2004 a self-produced EP called This is It! . They quickly gained a reputation for being one of the best live acts in Sweden. The Swedish independent label National then signed her and released her debut album Don't Don't Don't Don't in October 2005. Two singles were released from the album . The album Pep Talk followed in May 2006 and Betsy's Revenge in 2007 . 2008 appeared ABBA - cover Money, Money, Money as a single. The song was produced by Claes Olson . A best-of album followed in 2009 .

The fourth album, now with Lisa Bünger on bass, Punk Rock Harbor (2010) is the first to be marketed in Germany. The band is under contract with Kidnap Music , and Cargo Records took over distribution . The album was produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt ( The Hives , Randy ). With this album and the tour that followed, the band gained international attention. In Sweden they can now be heard regularly on the radio. At the end of 2011 the band toured Germany on the occasion of the release. In the meantime the band has given concerts in Germany, Norway, Finland, Denmark, France, the Czech Republic, Greece and Cuba as well as in Sweden. In January 2013 the album "People's Republic Of The Baboon Show Formerly Known As Sweden" was released.

In July 2013 the band announced that Frida Ståhl will play bass in the band from now on. Lisa Bünger left the band; According to the band's announcement, because due to the work in their music club in Stockholm they could not devote themselves to the "Baboon Show". The album Damnation was released on March 28, 2014 . After several visits to Cuba, the compilation Havanna Sessions was released in 2015 , on which the band recorded their own songs together with Cuban musicians.

The Baboon Show was the opening act for the band Die Toten Hosen on their tour "Laune der Natour" at the concerts in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart and in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin December 2017.

Music genre

The Baboon Show play a mixture of “77s punk, garage and power pop ”. The influences are from X-Ray Spex , Blondie , Ramones , Buzzcocks , AC / DC , Toy Dolls and Dead Kennedys . The songs are mostly short, direct and very catchy; almost always without long intros and without background singers, choirs or the like. On the album Damnation are z. B. 10 tracks with a total playing time of 27 minutes. The distinctive voice of the lead singer Cecilia Boström and the hard, puristic, sometimes almost metallic sound of the (only) guitar are inseparable from the style of the band. The lyrics of the band are very often political and socially critical. Issues such as the exploitation of workers, criticism of the United States and rebellion against authorities are looked at from a left-wing political / socialist perspective.
