Heroes of Olympus - The Blood of Olympus (Original title: The Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus ) is a fantasy youth book by Rick Riordan . It is the fifth and probably the last book in the series and the sequel to The House of Hades .

The plot follows on from the previous volume and mainly follows the experiences of two groups of characters. The first group consists of Jason, Piper and Leo who are with Percy, Annabeth, Frank and Hazel on the ship Argo II and on the way to Athens . There, according to the prophecy, Gaia will awaken what the heroes are trying to prevent.
The other group consists of Nico and Reyna, who, together with Coach Hedge , want to bring the statue of Athena Parthenos back to Camp Half-Blood in order to reconcile the Greeks and Romans again and subsequently prevent Octavian from attacking the Camp begins. On their way across Pompeii , Portugal , the Atlantic , Puerto Rico and South Carolina , they must defend themselves against the undead in the service of Gaia and avoid Orion's persecution . In Puerto Rico, Reyna's homeland, Reyna works with her sister Hylla to defeat Orion, but has to flee after he has destroyed a large number of the Artemis hunters. Only shortly before Camp Half-Blood does Reyna Orion surrender and defeat him. Meanwhile, Nico tries to sabotage Octavian's attempts to attack the camp, and Reyna is able to deliver the statue in time.
Jason, Leo and Piper have to make a detour around the whole Peloponnese to avoid the dangerous Strait of Corinth until they get to Athens. Juno has given them the task of visiting the goddess of victory Nike in Olympia ; this utters the prophecy that one of the three would die but could be resuscitated with a special remedy. On their further journey they collect the necessary ingredients and have to defend themselves against further dangers. When they reach the Parthenon, Percy and Annabeth are injured and involuntarily awaken Gaia with their blood.
At the last moment Leo manages to stop Gaia with the help of a mechanical kite Festus and blow him up. Although he dies in the process, he manages to revive himself with the Nikes remedy and flies back to the island of his beloved Calypso . There he tries to free her from her curse of being stuck on the island forever by flying away with her on his kite. To what extent he will succeed remains open.

The original English edition was published by Disney Hyperion in October 2014 with a circulation of 3 million . The book was number 9 on Apple's iBooks bestseller list in late October and 16 on USA Today's bestseller list in December 2014.
