Percy Jackson - The Curse of the Cyclops (Original title: Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters ) is an American 3D - Fantasy film from the year 2013 . It is based on the novel of the same name by Rick Riordan and is the sequel to Percy Jackson - Thieves in Olympus . The film was distributed by 20th Century Fox and directed by Thor Freudenthal .

Thalia , one of the daughters of Zeus , once gave her life to save that of her comrades from the demigod camp. In her honor, Zeus let a tree grow above her, which from then on was the starting point of the magical protective shield around the camp.
One day the Cyclops Tyson comes to the camp and claims to be a son of Poseidon and thus Percy Jackson's half-brother. A little later, despite the protective shield, the camp is attacked. Percy finds out that Luke, the son of Hermes , who was believed dead, poisoned Thalia's tree and that it is now dying. Percy also learns through the oracle that a descendant of the three great gods Zeus, Poseidon or Hades will save or destroy Olympus and that Luke wants to resurrect the ancient titan Kronos . On Annabeth's advice, Dionysus , who runs the camp, has a team put together to find the Golden Fleece and use it to heal the tree. To the annoyance of Annabeth, Percy and Grover, the self-loving Clarisse, daughter of Ares , is chosen along with a satyr , which actually contradicts the wording of the oracle.
While Clarisse is leaving, Percy, Annabeth and Grover also sneak out of camp at night to look for Luke on their own and find the Golden Fleece that Luke needs to wake Kronos up. The following Tyson is accepted into the group. Shortly thereafter, Grover is kidnapped by Luke's raiding party, as the fleece magically attracts satyrs like Grover. The others learn from Luke's father Hermes where Luke is and can get onto his yacht unnoticed. However, they are soon discovered and captured. From Luke they learn that Grover is already in the sea of monsters to find the island of the Circe with a raiding party , on which the Cyclops Polyphemus watches over the fleece.
With the help of Percy's powers, the three manage to escape. Arrived in the sea of monsters, they are swallowed by Charybdis and land in their stomach, where they also meet a ship with Clarisse and a crew of zombies . With combined forces they manage to escape the monster and finally to find Circe's island. In the cave of Polyphemus they meet Grover, who disguised himself as a Cyclops lady so as not to be eaten. They can lock Polyphemus and take the fleece, but are surprised by Luke and his people. Tyson throws himself into an arrow intended for Percy and falls into the water in the chest, hit by a cliff, the rest of the group is captured and must see how Luke resurrects Kronos. However, with the unexpected help of Tyson, who - as Poseidon's son - also healed the water, Percy succeeds in destroying Kronos again. Luke ends up in the cave of Polyphemus, while the others return to camp with the Golden Fleece and heal the tree of Thalia.
The fleece is also incredibly powerful and even brings Thalia back to life. So there are now three people for the original prophecy to whom it can refer, so it remains open as an oracle.

In October 2011, the film adaptation of the novel Percy Jackson was announced by 20th Century Fox . Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were hired as screenwriters . Thor Freudenthal directed while Chris Columbus acted as producer. Most of the cast of the first film remained, with Logan Lerman , Brandon T. Jackson , and Alexandra Daddario recruited . Pierce Brosnan no longer played the Centaur Chiron, instead the role was cast with Anthony Head . Luke Camilleri no longer plays the role of Dionysus ("Mr.D"), he is replaced by Stanley Tucci in the sequel . The role of Dylan Neal is also replaced by Nathan Fillion , who plays Hermes.
Filming began on April 16, 2012. The film was shot until July 22, 2012 in Robert Burnaby Park in Vancouver . A re-shoot took place in January 2013.

The great journey to the sea of monsters offers entertaining, fun entertainment and has a lot to offer. Hopefully it won't be another three years before the next part. The 'divine 3D' that is highlighted in the German advertisements, however, is not an asset to the film, as it is not used effectively at all apart from very few scenes. "

Andrew Lockington wrote the score for the film . Brian Liesegang was the producer and it was marketed by Sony Classical. The soundtrack was released on August 6, 2013. In the initial competition in camp is My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy recorded.
