Chris Joseph Columbus (born September 10, 1958 in Spangler , Pennsylvania ) is an American film producer , director , screenwriter and writer .

Life

At the age of 15, Columbus was inspired to make films by the movie The Godfather . He attended the New York film school, where his first screenplay was written. After graduating from school, Columbus had a breakthrough with his fourth screenplay, Gremlins , which was filmed by Joe Dante . He moved to Los Angeles and wrote other scripts for Steven Spielberg ( The Goonies ). Columbus began his directing career with the film The Night of Adventure . He is now one of the most sought-after Hollywood directors and producers and is known to a wide audience through films such as Kevin - Home Alone , Mrs. Doubtfire - The Prickly Nanny and the film adaptations of the first two Harry Potter novels. In July 2015, Columbus announced that he would like to film a sequel to Harry, Ron and Hermione's adventures after they graduate from Hogwarts.

In 1995 Columbus founded the film production company 1492 Pictures .
