Only the Lonely is an American comedy directed by Chris Columbus from the year 1991 and a remake of the classic Marty of 1955 .

action

Danny Muldoon, a Chicago cop, meets Theresa Luna. Theresa works in a funeral home. Danny falls in love with Theresa and worries that his mother will accept Rose Theresa.

Nick Acropolis, a neighbor of Rose, is courting Danny's mother. At first she treats him dismissively, then Nick and Rose get closer.

Only when Danny and Rose break out of their behavioral patterns, which have kept them interdependent, can they give up their shared flat and turn to their new partners.

Reviews

Lexicon of international film : "Idle, boring comedy". The actor in the main role John Candy seems ridiculous.

Rita Kempley in Washington Post (May 24, 1991): Candy looks like he's uncomfortable with a romantic role.

Peter Travers in Rolling Stone : The script seems sterile and the comedy as artificial as if it did not come from human hands. The viewer wonders what Theresa sees in Danny.
