The character of Athena (AKA The Heroes of Olympus: The Mark of Athena ) is a fantasy - youth book of the writer Rick Riordan . The sequel to The Son of Neptune is the third volume in the Heroes of Olympus series and was released in 2012.

As in the previous volumes, the story in The Sign of Athena is told in the third person from the perspective of the seven demigods. The group of seven demigods consists of Percy Jackson - a son of Poseidon , Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena , Jason Grace, son of Jupiter , Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite , Leo Valdez, son of Hephaestus , Frank Zhang, son of Mars and Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto .

The book follows on from The Son of Neptune . The Greek warship "Argo II" lands in the Roman half-blood camp. The home of the 12th legion "Fulminata". Despite the hostile position of the Romans, the Greeks come to "Camp Jupiter". Everyone recognizes Jason Grace, the former praetor, and Annabeth, her missing friend Percy Jackson . Despite Octavian's reservations, Praetor Reyna welcomes Jason and the Greeks to New Rome after Percy's encouragement. However, after a welcome party, everything goes wrong. Leo inexplicably attacks the Romans with the help of the Argo II. Annabeth, Percy, Jason, Piper and Frank find it difficult to save themselves on board and fly off while Hazel follows them on their horse Arion. However, the ship was badly damaged and has to land in Utah at the great salt lake so that Leo, who still doesn't know what got into him and he attacked the Romans, can repair it. There Hazel and Leo meet the goddess Nemesis and Narcissus. After a stop in Atlanta where Percy, Frank and Trainer Hedge meet Phorkys and Keto, they fly on to Charleston, where the girls Annabeth, Hazel and Piper meet Piper's mom, the goddess Aphrodite. In Fort Sumter, Annabeth searches for a symbol of Athena while the Romans attack the Argo II. She finds a map and the 7 demigods can escape the Romans again and set out to cross the Atlantic towards the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, Piper has discovered that Leo, Jason and Percy have been haunted by Eidola, evil spirits that take control of the body. It was because of this that Leo attacked Camp Jupiter, and because of this, Jason and Percy attacked each other in Kansas. She forces the Eidola to leave the boys' bodies with the help of Charmessprech and to swear on the Styx never to cast anyone from the team again.
