The Chevin is an English indie rock band from Leeds , West Yorkshire , formed in 2010.
history
The band formed in the small town of Otley , which lies in a valley on the edge of Leeds on the Wharfe . South of Otley is a range of hills whose name is "The Chevin" - hence the name of the band. At the age of twelve, school friends Coyle Girelli and Mat Steel started writing their own titles here and then tried to make a name for themselves in the neighboring city in the following years. Girelli, who is a passionate Nirvana , Oasis and Beatles fan, took over the vocals and accompanied Mat Steel on the guitar. They quickly met Jon Langford, who from then on supported the two as bassist. But it wasn't until they met Mal Taylor, also from Otley, in 2010, that the band seemed ready for bigger tasks.
In the spring of 2011, The Chevin met producer Noah Shain from Los Angeles , with whom they recorded some of the songs they had composed at Sonic Ranch, a studio complex south of El Paso in the US state of Texas . Only a short time later, the label Fierce Panda Records became aware of the band, offered a recording contract and then released the first EP The Champion . After the title track in particular was played by various radio stations in Great Britain , the band got the chance in November 2011 to accompany The Airborne Toxic Event on a four-week UK tour. In the same year they supported the White Lies as the opening act on their winter stadium tour. At the beginning of 2012 they accompanied The Pigeon Detectives in a joint tour bus on a European tour with a total of 16 appearances. The breakthrough finally came in March at the SXSW festival in Austin / Texas (USA) . After the steadily growing success, the band took care of the completion of their first studio album Borderland from April 2012 , which was released in the USA on September 25, 2012 and will debut in Europe on October 15, 2012 in Great Britain. In Germany the album will be published by Sony Music and will be officially released on October 19, 2012.
On August 29, 2012, the band made their debut on US television on the Late Show with David Letterman , where they played their first single, Champion , live in front of an audience of millions , which was released as an MP3 download the same day. The title Champion is also featured on the soundtrack of the soccer simulation FIFA 13 .
