action
Sam, an eight-year-old boy who goes to a Catholic private school, is about to make his first confession . However, he has a problem: there is nothing to confess. But since he thinks that he could only become a good Catholic if he had something to confess, he turned to his schoolmate Jacob. He says that he would confess that he did not listen to his mother and that he locked his sister in the basement. In desperation, Sam asked Jacob to commit a sin with him .
The two friends decide to steal a scarecrow and thereby break one of the ten commandments. The two steal the scarecrow and put it down in such a way that the farmer would have to discover it on his way home. But the plan backfires: a car driver thinks the scarecrow is a corpse, evades it and crashes into a tree. The driver and her daughter are killed. Scared, the two children flee with the scarecrow and throw it into a crevice.
Jacob tries to convince Sam it was an accident and warns him not to say something to anyone. But the guilt is too heavy for Sam. When his father tells about the missing scarecrow over dinner, Sam thinks he knows he is guilty. The two friends meet at the crevice and get into an argument. In a scuffle, Sam accidentally pushes Jacob down the cliff.
Confession is scheduled for the next day. Sam almost ambushes the priest to be the first to go to confession. When he was sitting in the confessional, he only confessed to the priest that he had not listened to his mother and that he had locked his sister in the cellar. The priest gives Sam absolution .
