The Coup de Grace is an American thrash metal band from Minneapolis , Minnesota that was formed in 1988 and split up in 1996.
history
The band was formed in 1988. In 1990 the self-titled debut album followed, which was produced by Dave Pirner ( Soul Asylum ). The band consisted of the singer and guitarist James Mecherle (aka Jimmy Coup), the guitarist Steve Wresh, the bassist Kurt Gillispie and the drummer Chris Westling. In the following five years it became quiet around the band before the second album The Art of Survival followed in 1995 . Bassist Kyle Lund and drummer Brett Degendorfer could be heard as new members. After the album was released, the line-up changed again: Tommy Dee now played bass, while Brent Degendorfer took on drums. Mark Chaussee was represented as guitarist . In 1996 the band broke up. Chaussee would later join Fight and Danzig , while Mecherle joined Andrew WK's band .
style
According to Uwe Schnädelbach from Metal Hammer, the band give groups like Metallica , Thin Lizzy and Mercyful Fate as their main influences. Schnädelbach almost suggested that the self-titled debut would sound like a mix of these bands, with the guitar riffs in particular reminding of Metallica. thethrashmetalguide.com heard thrash metal as well as classic heavy metal , power metal and hard rock influences on the album . The second album moves more towards hard rock.
