The Dogs D'Amour are a British rock band from Birmingham around the singer, guitarist and songwriter "Tyla" (real name Tim Taylor). The group's ascent began in the 1980s, with musical origins reaching back to the blues- dominated rock of the 1970s.

Band history

Beginnings

On April 12, 1983, Dogs D'Amour made their stage debut in London . In addition to Tyla, guitarist Ned Christie, drummer “Bam Bam” (also called “Bam” for short), bassist Karl Watson (“Carl”) and another guitarist, Nick Halls, were part of the party. After the newly formed band supported the British-American punk band The Lords of the New Church in the same year , they first said goodbye to Halls. Shortly afterwards, Ned Christie and Bam also left the group. The latter were replaced by Dave Kusworth (guitar) and Paul Hornby (drums). In this band formation, the first album was produced in 1984 under the Finnish label "Kumibeat".

In 1985 the young band again offered support for a musician: this time for the New York punk musician Johnny Thunders . At the same time, Bam returned to Dogs D'Amour - and replaced Hornby. Kusworth was also replaced, whose guitar part was now "Jo Dog".

Ascent

The official live album (Un) authorized Bootleg , which contains recordings from 1985 and 1986, was released under the label of China Records in 1988 with a number of only 2000 copies. However, the band only achieved their breakthrough with the CD In The Dynamite Jet Saloon , which was released in the same year, and the acoustic album A Graveyard of Empty Bottles from 1989, which was limited to 15,000 copies .

The 1990 album Straight was co-produced by Ric Browde , who made a name for himself in the British and American glam music scene in the 1980s - not least with the band Poison .

Fractions

1993 seemed to indicate a temporary end to the group: Steve James, bassist with Dogs D'Amour since 1988, joined the American guitarist and singer Adam Bomb . In the same year James founded his own band ("Last Bandits"). And for Jo Dog, too, there was an end in sight: he was replaced for the production of the album More Unchartered Heights of Disgrace, which was released in the same year, by the guitarist Darrell Bath, a former member of the largely unknown British band "The Crybabys".

In 1994, the Dogs D'Amour broke up in their popular line-up. From then on, Tyla concentrated on a solo career and some of his band members joined other music groups. A best-of album with 16 songs released in 1997 under the label of “Nectar Records” brought nothing new apart from a rather informative CD booklet and new band photos.

comeback

In November 2002, the Dogs D'Amour gave a live long concert in the Grugahalle in Essen , where the band played with Tyla, Bam Bam and Jo Dog almost in the original line-up. Share Pedersen (called "Share", ex-band member of Vixen ; wife of Bam Bam), who played the bass part on the album Happy Ever After released in 2000 , completed the well-known trio.

In addition to a number of solo projects by Tyla, the band's last album to date was released in 2006 under the band's name, which had become popular, entitled Unleashed (recorded live in late 2005). On the album, on which Tyla decided not to play his own guitar, two guitarists from the British punk rock band appear alongside "Yella" (backing vocals; friend of Tyla), Mark Stanway (keyboard) and Simon Hanson (drums) YO-YOS with: Rich Jones and Tom Spencer, who in addition to the guitar parts also took on the role of the supporting voices.

In 2009 the double album Bloody Hell Fire was released under Tyla's own label "King Outlaw Records" and in Europe under the label "House of 111" ( Cargo Records ) with the band title "Tyla & The Dogs"; with the exception of Tyla again with new musicians who have grouped around him.
