The Dude is a studio album by the American musician and producer Quincy Jones , released in 1981. The Dude featured a variety of talent under Jones-directed alongside well-known musicians such as Herbie Hancock , Stevie Wonder , Ernie Watts , Michael Jackson and Ian Underwood , received 12 Grammy nominations and won four of them.

The album reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 , the official US album charts, and number 3 on the Billboard Jazz and Billboard R&B charts.

The album, the title and the musicians received multiple awards; the album itself received a Grammy in the category of best performance by a duo or a group with singing - pop , the title Velas a Grammy in the category of best instrumental arrangement . The title Ai No Corrida received the Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement with Vocal Accompaniment and James Ingram for singing on One Hundred Ways for Best Male Vocal Performance - R&B .

Richard S. Ginell awarded three out of five stars on Allmusic and wrote:

“… Quincy Jones still owed one more album to A&M - and he gave them a blockbuster, one that reached number ten, yielded three hit pop singles and made a star out of soul balladeer James Ingram. Ai No Corrida , and the leadoff track, is the Quincy Jones hit method par excellence - great pacing, superb sound, a catchy tune, a hot Ernie Watts tenor sax solo and you can dance to it, too. …. Obviously, though, the main purpose here is to make hit pop singles, and The Dude does a pretty good job of that. "
