This article contains all episodes of the fifth season of the American dramedy series Desperate Housewives , sorted by the US American premiere . They were broadcast from September 30, 2008 to May 17, 2009 on the US broadcaster ABC . The German-language first broadcast was broadcast by the Swiss free TV broadcaster SRF Zwei from January 12 to November 16, 2009. The fifth season takes place for the first time in the series five series years after the previous season. The authors justified this with the fact that new secrets can happen in this period of time, which will be revealed in season 5.

Susan and Mike separated during the five years because they could no longer live together because of the guilt they felt in a car accident in which two people died. Susan has an affair with her painter Jackson Braddock, but Susan doesn't want her friends to find out. Gabrielle realizes that her daughter Juanita is too fat and tries in vain to get her to lose weight. After Danielle brought her son Benjamin in and removed him from Bree over the past five years, Bree got distracted with a cooking company. After her new cookbook is published, a television crew is invited to Bree's company kitchen. Since Katherine discovered recipes in the book that were actually made by her, Katherine manipulates Bree's television appearance. After Lynette catches her sons playing illegal poker, she puts them under house arrest. Nevertheless, she allows them to go to the school ball, but when Porter and Preston are repeatedly late from there, the twins are to be punished even more. Edie returns to Whisteria Lane with her new husband, Dave. Her husband persuaded her to move into the neighborhood again. After Mike meets Susan's new boyfriend Jackson, he wants to get to know him better so he knows who's around his son MJ. However, after a meeting, Mike and Jackson get along so well that this is uncomfortable for Susan. Gabrielle has to painfully realize that her social status in Fairview has dropped drastically. But her husband Carlos shows her that there are more important things than the recognition of the highest society. Orson is dissatisfied and bitter that Bree is hiding him from the public. Lynette tries to build a better relationship with her son Porter through a social network. When Porter falls in love with Lynette's alter ego, Lynette wants to break off contact, but she reveals herself in her email, and so Porter is disappointed in his mother because she has spied on him. When Dave learns that Edie wants to move away because of an argument with Karen, he forces Karen to apologize to Edie and hints at Karen's cat, Toby. When Toby disappears a day later and only reappears after apologizing to Edie, Karen is certain that something is wrong with Dave and asks Katherine to help her find out something about Dave. | |||||||

An argument between Juanita and MJ also leads to an argument between Gabrielle and Susan. Due to financial difficulties, Gabrielle sells her car and buys Andrew's old car instead. But when it needs to be repaired after a day, she forces Andrew to give her the money to repair it. Bree and Orson get a visit from Danielle, her husband and Benjamin. However, Bree cannot cope with the family's vegetarianism and feeds Benjamin hot dogs. When Danielle hears about this, they leave early. Lynette isn't thrilled that Tom and Dave want to start a garage band. When Edie reports to Dave that Karen questioned her about Dave, Dave portrays Karen as senile and appears to have a plan to manipulate Karen. | |||||||

Mike finds it very difficult that he has to give much of MJ's upbringing to Jackson. Dave, who desperately wants Mike in his neighborhood, gives Mike the opportunity to move into Mary Alice's old house. After Juanita catches Gabrielle and Carlos red-handed, it's time to clear up Juanita. However, when Juanita shares her new knowledge with her friends, the parents distance themselves from the family. Bree notices that her husband has long been out of work and decides to involve him in her company. The fact that Bree is so successful at their work arouses great envy among Katherine and Lynette. | |||||||

Susan is having a surprise birthday party for Karen's seventieth birthday. While the women think about the past five years, Dave manipulates Karen's house and moves her furniture. When Karen arrives at Susan completely upset, Dave has achieved his plan and everyone thinks Karen is senile at that moment. Karen is taken to the hospital by ambulance. Shortly before, Dave confesses to her that he has to do this, otherwise he would not be able to get his revenge on someone. At the end of the day Lynette learns about Tom's wanderlust, Gabrielle learns that Carlos doesn't want to rule out having another child, Bree tells Orson how much Katherine has helped her, and Susan is abandoned by Jackson that night after Susan refused to for him to move in with her. | |||||||

Susan is shocked when she notices how quickly Jackson comforted himself from her. Gabrielle wants to break the contact between Carlos and his patient Virginia after she learns that Carlos has massaged her to orgasm. But thanks to a tempting offer from the old lady, Gabrielle changes her mind. Bree tries to pair Katherine with a friend of Orson's. However, when they both find out that this friend was an acquaintance from Orson's prison days, Katherine is completely depressed. The affair between Porter and his schoolmate's mother leads Lynette to think that Tom is having the affair with Anne Schilling. Karen asks her sister Roberta to help them investigate Dave. | |||||||

Susan makes it a point to forego sex because of the new beginning with Jackson. This leads Jackson to unexpected inspirations. After Gabrielle realizes how much Virginia intrudes into her family, she gives her her opinion. Virginia then charges Carlos with sexual harassment at his employer. Through her surveillance camera, Bree finds out that Katherine and Mike are having an affair. She does not tolerate this as she has compassion for Susan. Lynette learns of the affair between her son Porter and Anne and forbids him to come close to her. When Anne realizes she is pregnant, she and Porter want to get out of Fairview. Karen and Roberta contact Dave's psychiatrist Dr. Samuel Heller for more information on Dave. During the conversation, Dr. Heller that Dave moved to Fairview. This worries him so much that he sets off for the suburbs himself. | |||||||

Susan gets a visit from her daughter Julie, but is shocked to see how old her new boyfriend is. Another attempt to get from Virginia to Gabrielle's life fails. Bree gets a visit from a well-known critic and goes to great lengths to make a good impression. Rather, it achieves the opposite. A visit from Dr. Heller, who learns of Dave's plans for revenge, leads Dave to strangle him in the Battle of The Bands. To cover up the murder, Dave sets fire to the club, whereupon panic breaks out and some people die. When Mike also remains in the burning house, Dave saves him and poses as a hero in front of the press. However, Dave did this to fully pursue his plan of revenge on Mike. After Anne's husband beat her to hospital the day before after he learned that she was having an affair with Porter, Porter shows up angrily at the club. After the fire, Anne's husband accuses Porter of starting the fire. Lynette is shocked. | |||||||

Susan finds out that Mike is dating Katherine and is sad and angry about it. When Carlos is told that he could regain his eyesight, Gabrielle panics to regain her old beauty before Carlos can see again. Orson's loud snoring since the accident leads Bree to want him to do an operation. Orson is really reluctant to do this. Lynette makes Anne leave town and begins to believe Porter that he didn't start the fire. To protect himself, however, Dave Williams told the police that he saw Porter setting fire. | |||||||

After MJ harassed Mike's new friend Katherine again and again, Mike and Susan realize that their son could still hope that they will get back together. When Carlos regains his eyesight, he is angry with Gabrielle, who sold an expensive souvenir from him out of financial difficulties. But when Carlos notices how many sacrifices Gabrielle herself has made to fight poverty, he sees Gabrielle with different eyes. Over dinner with the gay couple Bob and Lee, Bree, and Andrew and his new boyfriend Alex, Bree learns from Bob and Lee that Andrew's new boyfriend Alex has worked on a porno to finance his studies. However, Andrew manages to get Bree to take Alex into her heart anyway. Lynette is shocked when her son Porter is summoned to court and is released on bail. When Warren Schilling threatens Porter, he leaves town and Preston wants to stand in for Porter in court. | |||||||

When Alex's mother visits Bree, she tries to bring Andrew and Alex to her home. Since Bree does not want to allow this, she buys Martha Huber's house without further ado so that her son can be close by her side. Lynette notices Preston is in contact with Porter. This is staying with his grandmother Stella. Karen and Roberta try in vain to get information from Dr. To obtain Heller's secretary. After Edie finds Dave hallucinating and demands an explanation, she learns that Dave has been married before and is communicating with his dead family. After Mike gave Dave shelter, Dave had the idea to get revenge on Mike if he could do something to his love Katherine. After Susan and Edie are locked up for a night, they both come to an important insight. This leads Edie to forgive her husband Dave and Susan to enjoy being alone. Gabrielle struggles with raising her children alone on Carlos's first day at work. Bree begins to have serious differences of opinion with her son-in-law, which leads Alex to refuse to accept the gift of the house. However, Bree manages to jump over her shadow and she begins to give in once too. Since Porter is hiding with his grandmother, Lynette and her mother come into contact again. In the meantime, they clear up the misunderstandings that have led to them being out of contact over the past five years. | |||||||

After the ever-popular craftsman Elie Scruggs died on a crafting assignment on Susan's roof, housewives remember how Elie helped make their lives better. Gabrielle thinks about how Elie was the reason she is now friends with her friends. Lynette thanks Elie for ending her career for her children in order to be fully there for them. Edie and Susan owe Elie to better manage breakups, and Bree now owes Elie to being a successful entrepreneur. Mary Alice also thinks of Elie and says that Elie met her before she committed suicide. When Mary Alice took her own life a short time later, Elie made serious reproaches and decided from now on forever to be with all people who needed his help. At his funeral, Fairview once again commemorates the best and most sensitive craftsman in town. | |||||||

Susan is accepted for MJ at a private school. Since there is not enough money, Susan has to cope with not realizing MJ's dream. When she learns that Mike Katherine has bought a new chain, she is furious, but it turns out that the chain was just a cheap copy. In order to be able to afford school costs with an employee discount, Susan finally starts at school as an art teacher assistant. Gabrielle forces herself into her old dress after meeting Carlos. To fit perfectly into the dress again, she embarks on a boot camp fitness class with Edie. But as Gabrielle returns to her old self, she notices that with her old appearance, she is getting her old quirks back. Due to Lynette's financial hardship, Bree begins to become a partner in her restaurant for money. But when Bree wants to bring her own ideas to the pizzeria, Bree notices how much Lynette is suffering from her financial worries. When Lee learns from Bob that Dave has reported Porter, he informs Tom. Tom ends his friendship with Dave. | |||||||

Susan learns that Katherine has banished a painted picture of her to her basement. However, after Susan has an argument with Katherine, Susan understands Katherine's situation. Gabrielle begins to cover up Bradley's affair in front of Maria so that Carlos can continue to get money, although she feels guilty. When Gabrielle forces Bradley to confess to his wife, Gabrielle accepts that Carlos will be fired. After Bradley's confession, he is killed by his wife. Tom is frustrated with losing his pizzeria. The situation between him and Lynette escalates over dinner. Orson's dissatisfaction degenerates into a kleptomaniac. Bree notices Orson's addiction to theft and demands that he stop immediately. Edie finds out that Dave's real last name is Dash and starts researching her husband's past online. | |||||||

Bree is appalled to find dozens of stolen items in Orson's possession. She goes into therapy with him. Edie learns that Dave had a child who died in the car accident. | |||||||

Susan teaches Karl's son in elementary school. When Susan becomes aware of the terrible pictures of Evan, she realizes that Karl's family is not doing well. Gabrielle suffers from Carlos running out of time for her. Through Lynette, Lucy loses her job and Carlos gets more time again. After Orson can't get Bree to sell her company, Orson breaks into the neighborhood and starts stealing again out of frustration, but is caught. Edie learns of Dave's plans to revenge Mike and confronts him. When Dave tries to strangle Edie, she escapes. When she threatens to run over Orson, who is also fleeing, in the car, she evades and crashes into a power pole. Edie is electrocuted while getting out of the car and falls to the ground. | |||||||

Edie dies of an electric shock in the presence of her neighbors. A few days later, Dave hires her friends to bring Edie's ashes to her son Travers. On the drive to Travers, Gabrielle, Susan, Gabrielle, Lynette, and Karen reminisce about Edie. When it turns out that Travers doesn’t seem to be affected by his mother’s death, Karen makes it clear to him that Edie has always loved her son. At home, the housewives decide to scatter Edie's ashes all over their property on Whisteria Lane so that she can be on her beloved street forever. | |||||||

However, Gabrielle shows her that inner values count. Bree finds Karl Mayer as a divorce attorney and is ready to go over dead bodies for her divorce. Susan's and Jackson's wedding plans make Katherine overjoyed, who no longer sees any danger that Mike might leave them for Susan. But through Dave Jackson is arrested by the immigration authorities before the wedding. After meeting a friend at a food outlet, Gabrielle realizes how thin the line is between wealth and poverty. Bree breaks into her house with Karl in order to make her most important belongings disappear during the separation from Orson and to put them in a storage room. Orson, however, tracks down the hoax. Dave goes on a fishing trip with Susan and MJ to complete his plan of revenge. Meanwhile, Katherine and Mike plan to say yes in Las Vegas. Gabrielle lets Carlos' aunt persuade her to take in her niece Ana. Bree tells Orson that she is about to divorce him, but Orson blackmails her so that Bree can no longer pursue her plan. Lynette disagrees with Tom's idea of going back to college and manipulates him into not passing the entrance exam. After he murders his psychiatrist to keep his secret from being revealed and his attempts to kill Mike fail, he finds out that it was actually Susan who caused the accident and now plans to kill Mike and Susan's son MJ. Due to the message to Mike, in which he tries to explain his planned act, the latter recognizes Dave's motives and tries to prevent the murder. Ultimately, Dave spares MJ because of his guilty conscience and is then admitted to a mental hospital. |
