Douglas Peter "Doug" Savant (born June 21, 1964 in Burbank , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Doug Savant first worked in his family's pizzeria before becoming an actor. In the thriller Masquerade - A Deadly Game in 1988 he starred alongside Rob Lowe and Meg Tilly in a bigger role. From 1992 to 1997 he played the role of gay Matt Fielding in the television series Melrose Place .

Savant played Grant Coleman in the action films The President's Daughter (1999), First Target (2000) and First Shot (2002) , twice alongside Mariel Hemingway , once at the side of Daryl Hannah . He also appeared in Series 24 . From 2004 to 2012 he played the role of Tom Scavo , Lynette's husband , played by Felicity Huffman in the television series Desperate Housewives . This role earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006 .

After his first marriage, which lasted from 1983 to 1997, Savant married actress Laura Leighton in 1998 , with whom he appeared in the television series Melrose Place. He has two children each from his first and second marriage.
