James Denton (born January 20, 1963 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American actor .

biography

After graduating from Knoxville University and earning a degree in television and advertising , he took a job at the local theater at the age of 23. Denton worked in advertising for two radio stations for four years before he decided to move to Chicago to pursue his dream of acting .

There he got his first role in the play Endstation Sehnsucht by Tennessee Williams . Denton worked afterwards a. a. in the comedy Hase Hase at the Griffin Theater and was a member of the Strawdog Theater Ensemble . During this time he also received several awards, including for his role as a priest in The Diviners by Jim Leonard. For this role he was nominated for Best Actor for Chicago's only theater award , the Joseph Jefferson Award .

He had his first television appearances in the series The Untouchables , Dark Skies - Deadly Threat and Sliders - The Gate into a Foreign Dimension . This was followed by roles in the feature films Again With Feeling , In The Body Of The Enemy And With All Power . In 1997, Denton got the role of Mr. Lyle in the television series Pretender , which he held until the series was discontinued in 2000. After guest appearances in The West Wing and Ally McBeal , he played the lead role of Judge Augustus Ripley in Philly from 2001 to 2002 . From 2004 to 2012 Denton played the plumber Mike Delfino, who was married to Susan Mayer, played by Teri Hatcher , in the hit series Desperate Housewives .

A passionate guitarist, Denton performs alongside other celebrities with the charity rock group Band From TV , which includes fellow actors Teri Hatcher (vocals), Jesse Spencer (violin) and Hugh Laurie (vocals and keyboards).

He has been married to his personal trainer Erin since December 2002, with whom he has a daughter (* 2005) and a son (* 2003).
