The Girls of the Playboy Mansion (Original title: The Girls Next Door ) is an American documentary soap that deals with the apparent private life of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and his friends in the Playboy Mansion . The series was created by producers Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner.

The first five seasons featured Hefner's friends Holly Madison , Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson as the leading actresses, all of whom moved out of the mansion for various reasons at the end of the fifth season. The sixth and final season continued with Hefner's new friends, twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon and Crystal Harris . On January 13, 2010, Hefner tweeted that he had separated from the twins. They wanted to finish their studies and he wants to support them.

Spin-offs
After the lack of success of the series after the departure of the three original protagonists, attempts were made to build on previous viewer interests with offshoots of the format. Holly's World , Kendra and their new edition Kendra on Top follow the life paths of the first protagonists after their stay in the Playboy Mansion .
Kendra Wilkinson was hired for her own documentary soap together with her new boyfriend, American football player Hank Baskett , whom she married in the course of the series and had a child with him.
In 2010 a backdoor pilot was broadcast under the title The Girls Next Door: The Bunny House , which apparently documents life in the Playboy Mansion. The actresses included Jaime Faith Edmondson ( Playmate January 2010), Hope Dworaczyk (Playmate of the year 2010), Claire Sinclair (Playmate of the year 2011), Jayde Nicole (Playmate of the year 2008), Crystal McCahill (Playmate of the year 2009), Anna Sophia Berglund (Playmate January 2011) and Crystal Harris (Playmate December 2009), who had already appeared in the sixth season. The pilot was not given in series.
