The Ice was a German heavy rock / hardcore punk band from Cologne .

history

The band was founded in 2005 by the drummer Matthias Menzel, the then singer Fabian Dünkelmann and the guitarist Michael Röttger. During the songwriting for the band's first demo, Heiko Bartel joined the band as bassist.

The band released the first demo, entitled Powertrip , on tape and CD in the winter of 2006 as a small edition and is out of print today.

After the production of the demo Powertrip , singer and founding member Fabian Dünkelmann left the band and was replaced by Christian Monreal, previously singer of the band Mindgrab. During 2006, The Ice played their first shows and worked on a second demo entitled MMVII , which was first released in 2007 as tape on Deadsoil Rec., Later also as limited 7-inch vinyl on DRA Rec.

After the release of the MMVII demo, bassist Heiko Bartel left the band and was replaced by Peter Busse, formerly bassist of the Mönchen-Gladbach band Settle the Score. Shortly before, Andy Helmholz, guitarist of the Siegen band Embraced by Hatred and working as a hip-hop producer under the alias "Tank Beats Inc.", joined the band as the second guitarist. Further appearances throughout Europe followed the songwriting for the EP Touching the Void , which was released as a limited digipack CD on the Italian label Countdown Rec. In 2009 and as Gatefold 12-Inch Vinyl on Street Survival Rec. In 2010.

The release of the EP was followed by concerts on national and international stages a. a. as main support for bands like Ignite , Merauder , Terror , H₂O , Born from Pain , Sick of It All , Death Before Dishonor . After the band began work on a new release in mid-2010, The Ice announced in December 2010 that their next 7-inch vinyl would be released on Save My Soul Records . This never happened.

style

The Ice combine the toughness of metallic hardcore bands from New York in the 1990s with the groove and virtuosity of alternative heavy rock bands such as B. Only Living Witness or Life of Agony . The rock-hard music magazine describes The Ice's music as “hearty, heart-blooded alternative heavy rock”.
