The Island is an island in Cheeseman Lake in Douglas County in Colorado , USA .

The island is uninhabited and scattered with bushes and trees, its highest point is at 2111  m . Like almost the entire region, the island is made up of coarse " Pikes Peak Granite ". When the water level in the lake is low, "The Island" is connected to the land by a narrow strip. The administrative boundary between "Douglas County" and Jefferson County to the west runs in the middle of the lake, with "The Island" being in front of the eastern lakeshore and thus belonging to Douglas County.

The " Cheeseman Reservoir " extends in a north-south direction and has a length of 8 km and a maximum width of 600 m, its water surface is at most 2087 m. It is located in the Pike National Forest between Denver and Colorado Springs , which extends over 4.478 km² across Clear Creek Counties , Teller Counties , Park Counties , Jefferson Counties , El Paso Counties and Douglas Counties .

In June 2002 a forest fire , the so-called Hayman Fire , destroyed 550 km² of the Pike National Forest , i.e. more than 10 percent of the entire park area.
