The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game is a computer game , the TT fusion developed and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is marketed. The action adventure is based on the computer-animated feature film The LEGO Ninjago Movie and was released for the Microsoft Windows operating system and the game consoles Nintendo Switch , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the same time as the feature film on September 22, 2017 in North America and on October 20, 2017 worldwide . It is the second spin-off Lego video game and the third Lego game based on a Lego movie.
Game mechanics
The computer game follows a slightly shortened version of the plot of the feature film and even uses a number of clips straight from the film as cutscenes with in-game cinematics to connect the scenes together.
The game mechanics of the Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game is similar to that of other Lego video games developed by TT Games and its two predecessors Nindroids (2014) and Shadow of Ronin (2015). As with The Lego Movie Videogame (2014), the environment consists entirely of Lego bricks. The player can control one of six main characters (Lloyd, Kai, Jay, Zane, Cole and Nya) or secondary characters (Master Wu, Lord Garmadon) from a third-person perspective , primarily in the fight against enemies, when solving puzzles and collecting Lego bricks, the in-game currency. The figures mostly run on surfaces in tube-like levels, can jump, move to the side, climb in predetermined places and run wall runs. Most fights take place in hand-to-hand combat with swords, spears or hammers. Bow and arrow and Spinjitzu skills can be used in long-range combat.
Using attack combinations (combos) in combat multiplies the number of Lego bricks earned. In contrast to other Lego-based video games, which only have a co-op mode , this game allows up to four players to play simultaneously on one screen in Battle Maps mode. Over 101 characters can be played.
The game includes eight locations from The LEGO Ninjago Movie . Each location offers a unique Dojo Challenge where players can test their combat skills while battling increasingly stronger enemies. The campaign is divided into a prologue ("The Training Dojo"), 13 levels and an epilogue ("Return to Ninjago City"):
- Good Morning Ninjago
- Ninjas Assemble
- Lock on Garmadon
- Garmadon Returns
- The Ultimate Weapon
- The Ninjas Defeated
- The Uncrossable Jungle
- Battle of the Masters
- Ambush City
- The Lost City of Generals
- Escape from the City of Generals
- The Unclimbable Mountain
- Flashback Battle
reception
The game received mixed ratings in general , according to review aggregator Metacritic , with only the Xbox One version receiving “generally positive” ratings. The metascore based on 27 reviews is 67% for the PS4 version, 76% for the Xbox One and 66% for the Nintendo Switch.
The German-language online computer game magazine PS4 Source rated the game with 7.4 out of a total of 10 points and praised the multiplayer mode and the soundscape and criticized the noticeable screen tearing and the insufficient graphic improvements of the PlayStation 4 Pro version.
“Although you don't allow yourself to make any major blunders here, the lush and good-looking Ninjago island world doesn't manage to fascinate me as much as other titles from the bulging plastic knob portfolio. With its fight focus and the tried and tested qualities such as the dynamic split-screen mode or the proper switch puzzles, the trip to Ninjago is also an all-round successful and well-staged action that is also suitable for playing with kids in the family.
