The Loved Ones - Pretty in Blood is a 2009 Australian horror film .

action

At the beginning of the film, Brent Mitchell drives down a street with his father. Suddenly a seriously injured boy is standing in the middle of the street. Brent just manages to avoid it, but crashes into a tree with full force. The impact ends fatally for Brent's father.

Six months later, the emotionally battered Brent is invited by Lola to the prom. However, Brent refuses because he already has a girlfriend. That afternoon he goes out with his dog. During a break on a rocky peak, he is drugged and kidnapped by Lola's father.

Brent finds himself tied up in Lola's house. There Lola holds her own prom with her father and her praised mother "Strahle-Auge". Brent is initially able to free himself briefly but is quickly caught again by Lola and her father.

To prevent another outbreak, Brent's feet are nailed to the floor with a knife. The imitation of the prom continues while the real prom, attended by Brent's friend with the Gothic girl Mia, takes place at the same time. Lola shows Brent a photo album with all the young men who have already kidnapped her and her father. Below is the injured boy who caused the traffic accident at the beginning of the film. It also later becomes clear that this boy is Mia's brother, which also explains her emotional problems.

Lola carves a big heart into Brent's chest. Lola is named prom queen by her father and the hostage Brent is promised king. After this forced couple dance, Lola also dances with her father.

Lola and her father show Brent that the previous victims are still locked in the basement of their house, but that they are completely mentally deranged. This fate is also said to overtake Brent by means of a drill. After the hole has been drilled in Brent's head, but just before the hot water can be poured into it, Brent frees himself, knocks Lola unconscious and pushes Lola's father into the basement, where the former abductees eat him.

However, Lola quickly wakes up again and throws Brent into the basement with the previously kidnapped. Lola kills her mother "Ray Eye" while the local sheriff arrives at Lola's house. The sheriff finds Brent in the basement, but Lola sneaks up from behind and kills the sheriff. She next sets out to kill Brent's mother and girlfriend.

Brent can incapacitate the lobotomized attackers with a hammer and piles up their bodies to climb out of the cellar. The blood-smeared Lola walks quietly with a knife down the street where she meets Brent's friend Holly. However, Holly is able to fend off Lola until Brent shows up in the sheriff's car and runs over Lola twice.

backgrounds

The staged ball and the scene at the table are largely reminiscent of the famous dinner scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre .

criticism

"Even as a bloodied prom queen, McLeavy is cute in a certain, if weird way. Her Lola finally brings the text of the Nazareth classic "Love Hurts" back to our memories in a particularly vivid way. "Take a lot of pain" it says in one line. Brent won't want to contradict that. "

"Sarcastic torture porn variant, which at least looks for a connection between slasher film and (pitch-black) teen comedy, not in a clumsy way."

"Lola is undeniably one of the top female psychopaths in film history."
