The Prodigal Stranger is the tenth studio album by the British progressive rock band Procol Harum . It was released on August 27, 1991 and was the first album in 14 years. Mark Brzezicki replaced BJ Wilson, who died in October 1990, on drums.

James A. Gardner writes at AllMusic that the disappointments this album portrays would be evident by looking at the staff and the lyrics. Drummer BJ Wilson, a major architect of the Procol sound, died before this reunion was realized. And a look at song titles like Holding On and One More Time shows that lyricist Keith Reid wrote in an everyday, conventional mode; a hearing confirms this. Brooker just doesn't have much to sing, even though he's in top vocal form. The Brooker-Fisher-Trower-Trio doesn’t strike many sparks instrumentally either. Far too often, especially with the frequent use of synthesizers instead of Hammond organs, this could be any competent AOR group.
