The Shivering Denizens are an American country band that was founded in 2007 in Seattle , Washington .
style
The four musicians feel particularly connected to the honky tonk , rockabilly and outlaw country sub-genres: a highly energetic and fast-paced variety that has nothing to do with the smooth- ironed Nashville mass-produced goods that have served genre radio stations almost exclusively for many years . The Shivering Denizens see themselves as time travelers - “we're going to Austin , Texas in 1973,” says the band's homepage. A slight approach of western swing in the band's music, which had many followers during this time , also fits this. You see yourself as a modern form of Commander Cody with Hellbilly armor. The band also has a certain punk attitude, which is typical of some bands around the Bloodshot label, for example .
However, the Denizens are likely to occupy a special position here. Her songs are about classic country music themes - alcohol, drugs, misery and despair. The band stands with both feet in the living tradition of Hank Williams , David Allan Coe , Johnny Cash , Johnny Paycheck and George Jones . Examples of this are song titles like Homeless, Drunk And Lonely or Honky Tonk Suicide , We're All Gonna Die .
history
In December 2008 the band went into the studio to record their first CD. Brian Nelson, who had acted as a sound engineer at Nirvanas CD Lithium , was able to be won over for the production . Ten songs were recorded in two days, and CD production was completed a few days later. Outstanding on the recordings is the guitar work by Fred Speakman, who also plays the Humptulips piano. After the production, Lee Harvey Hartwood joined the band - and brought along the guitar as well as the banjo sound, which should enrich the second album.
The second CD, Crooked And Crazy , was released in March 2010. Buck Ellard played the fiddle to match the banjo and Jimmy Peters contributed the steel guitar . Again Brian Nelson took over the production of this time thirteen songs, with the last song on the CD being a live recording. Fred Speakman can also be heard on some tracks.
The Shivering Denizens are currently on the country's stages a lot and have already played in the opening act for David Allan Coe. They also shared stages with The Hickoids, Bob Wayne, James Hunicutt, Eddie Spaghetti of the Supersuckers, and many others. The CDs were released on the Ronerecords label .
