The Wonders was a fictional American beat group that appeared in That Thing You Do! was created. The band consisted of singer Mike Viola (* in Boston ) and other studio musicians , but was starred in the film by Tom Everett Scott ( Guy Patterson ), Johnathon Schaech ( James Mattingly III ), Steve Zahn ( Lenny Haise ) and Ethan Embry ( TB Player / The Bass Player ).

Originally the band was called "The Oneders" (spoken: Wonders), a combination of "One" and "Wonder". Because most people mistakenly pronounced the name as "Oh-nee-ders", the pun was dropped and it was simplified to "The Wonders".

The title That Thing You Do! , which plays an important role in the film, was released as a single and entered the Billboard Hot 100 (number 41) in late 1996, and in early 1997 also in the charts in Great Britain (number 22) and Germany (number 90).

An album of the band, there was not, but on the soundtrack for the film were in addition to the hit , the written by Adam Schlesinger and Uncle Bob produced was, and some contributed by artist four The Wonders songs and a live version by That Thing You Do! .
