Theater of Pain is the third studio album by the American glam rock band Mötley Crüe .

history

In 1984 Mötley Crüe invited the support band Hanoi Rocks to go partying after the performance. But it ended in disaster. Vince Neil drove on drugs, had an accident and Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle died and this album was dedicated to him. It was released on June 21, 1985 and reached number 5 on the American charts.

According to bassist Nikki Sixx , the title of the album goes back to both the essay Theater of Cruelty by actor Antonin Artaud and a suggestion by singer Dinah Cancer from the horror punk band 45 Grave . For the song Home Sweet Home , the band shot a video clip on a concert-free day in the state of Texas as part of the Theater of Pain tour . At this point in time, bass man Nikki Sixx was in poor health due to his severe drug addiction, which can be seen in the video clip by his rigid expression. Home Sweet Home's music video consists of shots in a tour bus and scenes in a cloakroom corridor as well as live scenes by Mötley Crüe on a stage. While his three bandmates perform exuberantly in the clip, Sixx wears black sunglasses to hide his eyes rolled by alcohol and drugs.
