Theodor Geyr von Schweppenburg

Theodor Johann Jacob Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg (born September 28, 1806 in Cologne , † July 3, 1882 in Aachen ) was mayor of the city of Aachen and a member of the Prussian mansion .

The son of the manor owner Maximilian Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg (1771–1856) and the Clementine Auguste Henrike van Wassenaar (1784–1854) and grandson of Aachen Vogtmajor Rudolf Constantin Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg (1735–1795) initially served as an officer in the Prussian army . In 1833 he said goodbye and administered the mansions transferred to him and also took on numerous public offices. From 1839 von Schweppenburg belonged to the city council of Aachen and was also a colonel in the vigilante group until 1848 . In 1846 he was appointed by Edmund Emundtsas President of the Poor Administration Commission, an independent authority under the direct jurisdiction of the Lord Mayor. A year later von Schweppenburg was one of the founding members of the Karlsverein for the restoration of the Aachen Cathedral , which is still involved in the renovation and restoration of the Aachen Cathedral . Finally, from 1871, von Schweppenburg was elected mayor of the city of Aachen and he held this office until his death.

In addition, von Schweppenburg represented the city of Aachen in the Prussian manor house with the rank of royal chamberlain and as vice marshal in the provincial assembly of the Rhine province .

Theodor Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg was married to Clementine Ottilie Hubertine von Strauch (1809-1893), daughter of District Administrator Karl Rudolf von Strauch , but the marriage remained childless. The couple found their final resting place in Aachen's Ostfriedhof .
