Theodor Goltdammer

Theodor Herrmann Goltdammer (born January 5, 1801 in Stettin , † January 5, 1872 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and judge . A specialist journal founded by him appears to this day as Goltdammer's archive for criminal law .

Life

Goltdammer was the son of a Stettin merchant. He studied law at the University of Berlin and Heidelberg University . He entered the Prussian judicial service, where he worked in various provinces until he came to the capital Berlin : He started in his hometown of Szczecin and then moved to Breslau . From 1834 to 1838 he was director of the district court in Köslin . From 1839 he was a judge at the Appellationsgericht in Frankfurt (Oder) ("Appellationsgerichtsrat"), but seconded to the Prussian Ministry of Justice in Berlin. In 1841 he became a judge at the Berlin Superior Court ("Kammergerichtsrat"), and in 1852 he became a judge at the Prussian Higher Tribunal ("Secret Higher Tribunal Council"). In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament .

According to the assessment of Gottfried von Bülow in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (1879), Goltdammer was "an outstanding practitioner who has made a name for himself in wide circles through his writings based on thorough knowledge of the subject". In 1853 he founded the specialist journal Archive for Prussian Criminal Law , which is still published today under the title Goltdammer's Archive for Criminal Law .

In addition to his legal publications, Goltdammer also wrote beautiful literature .

In 1833 Goltdammer married Ottilie Olearius , the daughter of a Breslau pharmacist. The marriage resulted in three sons, including Eduard Goltdammer (* 1842; † 1891), who became a doctor in Berlin.
