Theodor Haemmerle

Theodor Hämmerle (born January 26, 1859 in Dornbirn , Vorarlberg , † February 15, 1930 in Vienna ) was an Austrian textile industrialist and patron .

Life

Theodor was the third son of the industrialist Franz Martin Hämmerle (1815–1878). He went to secondary school in Innsbruck , studied at several universities and finally came to Vienna to manage the local branch of the Vorarlberg company FM Hämmerle .

His personal love was sport (he was one of the best rowers in Austria) and music. He was a patron in both areas. He founded the Dornbirn Music School and was a co-founder of the Vienna Concert Society and its orchestra. The Konzerthausgesellschaft can also be traced back to him, of which he was a board member. In addition, Hämmerle donated several grants and had the mass in D minor printed by Anton Bruckner at his own expense. In his apartment at Franz-Josefs-Kai 53 he organized more than 700 musical quartet evenings. He also owned an extensive collection of valuable musical instruments by German and Viennese masters.

Theodor Hämmerle is buried in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 14, number 8). The Hämmerlegasse in Vienna- Favoriten was named after him in 1956.
