Theodor Hermann Pantenius

Theodor Hermann Pantenius (born October 22, 1843 in Mitau ; † November 16, 1915 in Leipzig ) was a German-Baltic writer and magazine editor whose literary work dealt extensively with material from his Baltic homeland in novels and short stories.

Life

His father Wilhelm Christian Pantenius was a German-Baltic preacher and folk writer in Courland , his mother Louise a née Conradi. Theodor Hermann Pantenius had a sister, Natalie Agnes , who in 1862 married Hermann Julius von Denffer , who later became the managing director of the Courland government, and in 1874 he married Louise Schniedewind from Rigans. He first studied theology in Berlin and Erlangen, where he became a member of the North German Student Society on the Wels (today Landsmannschaft Hansea auf dem Wels ) in the winter semester of 1864 . He then worked first as a tutor in Saint Petersburg and then from 1870 to 1876 as a private tutor in Riga , where in 1873 he became editor of the Baltic Monthly . In 1876 he moved to Leipzig, where he published the family magazine Daheim and from 1886–1906 also edited Velhagen and Klasings monthly magazines . In 1891 he moved to Berlin to edit both magazines.
