Theodor Jacobi

Wilhelm Alexander Theodor Jacobi (born January 31, 1816 in Neisse , † February 23, 1848 in Breslau ) was a German German philologist .

Life

The son of Colonel Paul Friedrich Jacobi, who died in 1833, attended high school in Neisse and in 1834 went to the University of Breslau , where he first studied at the law and then at the philosophy faculty. In 1837 he went to Berlin to study and came back to Breslau in 1839. There he was in 1839 with the dissertation De Ottocari Chronico austriaco to Dr. phil. PhD . He stayed at the university and received his habilitation there after a short time .

From 1840 Jacobi taught as a private lecturer at the University of Breslau. He held many specialist lectures and was appointed associate professor at the end of 1843 . Jacobi died in office as an ambitious scientific force. Among other things, in his work he combined linguistic and old German studies with the study of newer and most recent German literature and became a role model for other people working in this field.
