Theodor Langenmaier

Theodor Langenmaier (born December 29, 1888 in Munich ; † 1964 ) was a German German philologist , literary historian and teacher .

Life

Theodor Langenmaier was born in Munich in 1888 as the son of the businessman August Langenmaier. He studied history, geography and anthropology with u. a. Erich von Drygalski , Karl Theodor von Heigel , and Johannes Ranke and heard about philosophy from Georg von Hertling . Langenmaier began his doctorate with Erich von Drygalski with the dissertation " Ancient Knowledge and Cartography of the Central African Sea Region ". However, when he entered the army after the outbreak of World War I, Hermann Wagner from the University of Göttingen took over the review.

Langenmaier became a teacher at the Royal District High School for Upper Franconia (now Graf-Münster-Gymnasium ). In his literary history of contemporary history, which was published in 1935 and reissued several times, Langenmaier followed the new discourse determined by the Nazi cultural policy.

When the Jean Paul Society was re-established after the end of the Second World War , Theodor Langenmaier became its first chairman and published it in the association's magazine Hesperus . He was awarded the Golden Ring of Honor by the city of Bayreuth .

Theodor Langenmaier died in early 1964.
