Theodor Verweyen

Theodor Verweyen (* 1937 in Ahaus ) is a German literary scholar and emeritus professors .

Live and act

After graduating from the Alexander-Hegius-Gymnasium in Ahaus in 1958, Verweyen studied German , philosophy , geography and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn . He passed the 1st state examination in 1964 with distinction, in 1967 he received his doctorate summa cum laude and in 1968 he passed the 2nd state examination again with distinction. Assistantship and habilitation “Middle and Modern German Literature ” (1974) then took place at the chair of Wolfgang Preisendanz in the Faculty of Literature at the Reform University of Konstanz .

In 1977 he took over the chair of comparative literature and modern German literature for Eberhard Lämmert at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In the winter of the same year he became an adjunct professor in Konstanz and was given a C3 professorship there in 1979 . In October 1980 he was offered the chair for modern German literature at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . Among other things, he was executive director of the institute several times. In 2003 he retired.

His main research interests were the German literature of the early modern period, the Weimar Classics, the period after 1945 as well as literary theoretical aspects of historical rhetoric, poetics and intertextuality.
