Theodor Voges

Theodor Voges (born October 12, 1845 in Wolfenbüttel ; † June 2, 1934 there ) was a German teacher , researcher of prehistory and local history .

Life

Theodor Voges was born in Wolfenbüttel in 1845 and grew up in the orphanage there from the age of 9 . From 1865 he attended the teacher training college in Wolfenbüttel and then worked from 1872 to 1916 as a teacher at the community school in his hometown. He carried out an inventory of architectural and art monuments in the state of Braunschweig for the districts of Wolfenbüttel , Helmstedt , Blankenburg and Holzminden . From 1884 he focused on prehistoric studies and built up a prehistoric collection in the Wolfenbüttel Castle Museum . Voges published on homeland and prehistory in the Braunschweigisches Jahrbuch and in the Braunschweigische Heimat, among others . He died in Wolfenbüttel in June 1934. His son was the historian and archivist Hermann Voges .
