Theodor "Turl" Wagner (born August 6, 1927 in Vienna ; † January 21, 2020 there ) was an Austrian football player . The striker won the championship and trophy with his club SC Wacker Wien in 1947 and came third with the Austrian national team at the 1954 World Cup . He made his big appearance there in the quarterfinals against the hosts , in which he scored three goals for Austria.

Career

Meidlinger footballer Turl Wagner began his career with the small district clubs Phönix XII and MFC 12 before he joined Wacker Vienna in 1940 . In the black and white he is said to have learned his technical skills primarily from club colleague Willy Hahnemann , the greatest success with the club was celebrated with the double in 1947. However, he was not granted another title win, four times he narrowly failed as runner-up with the Club at the second championship. Turl Wagner was brought into the national team by Edi Bauer , he played a total of 46 international matches for Austria, in which he scored 22 goals. He made his debut on November 10, 1946 in Bern against Switzerland , when he played for his international team on November 5, 1950, Turl Wagner scored a flawless hat trick in just 27 minutes in a 5-1 victory over Denmark .

The striker should score three goals in one game at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. After Austria reached the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win against Scotland and a 5-0 win over Czechoslovakia , thanks to three Wagner goals, Switzerland was defeated 7-5 in the heat battle of Lausanne . The later 3rd place in the further course of the tournament is the highlight of Turl Wagner's career. After his team departure in 1957, the striker also left Wacker Vienna after differences and, towards the end of his career, played at SV nitrogen Linz from 1958 to 1962 and then at FC Wacker Innsbruck in autumn 1962 . As a coach, Turl Wagner returned again in 1964 for one season at SC Wacker Vienna. He later worked in his shoe store on Meidlinger Hauptstrasse until 1998 . He was buried at the Südwestfriedhof (Vienna) .
