Theodor Wiese

Theodor Carl Gottfried Wiese (born July 7, 1893 in Brandenburg an der Havel , † October 9, 1946 in Munich ) was a German painter .

life and work

Theodor Wiese was the son of the decorative painter and painter Theodor Wiese, who lived in Brandenburg. Theodor Wiese learned the painting trade with him. From 1917 he studied at the art academy in Munich at the drawing school with Angelo Jank . He exhibited in 1924 and 1930 at the exhibitions of the Munich Artists' Cooperative in the Glaspalast .

Theodor Wiese left a series of oil paintings, pastels and drawings, some in the Impressionist style , some in a naturalistic view. Many of his works show motifs from Munich (Theatinerkirche, Lukaskirche, English Garden). Theo Wiese also knows pictures with motifs from Upper Bavaria, the Altmühltal and Spain. Theodor Wiese signed his pictures with “Theo Wiese Munich” or “Theo Wiese Mchn.”, Sometimes followed by a date.

On December 2, 1920, Theodor Wiese married the Philadelphia singing teacher Emma Whitney (1874–1956), daughter of a factory owner.
