Geography and traffic
Thesenvitz is located about five kilometers northwest of Bergen on Rügen, in Rügen's central ground moraine north of the Duwenbeek , the only larger flowing water on Rügen. The district of Ramitz is located directly on state road 30 from Bergen to Gingst . The Bundesstraße 96 and the Stralsund – Sassnitz railway line run east of Thesenvitz.
history
The place name comes from Slavonic . "Tesenovici" means something like "People of Tesen" and suggests the founder of the place.
The place was part of the Principality of Rügen until 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania . With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, Rügen and thus also the area of Thesenvitz became part of Swedish Pomerania . In 1815 Thesenvitz came to the Prussian province of Pomerania as part of New Western Pomerania .
Since 1818 Thesenvitz belonged to the district of Rügen . Only in the years from 1952 to 1955 was it part of the Bergen district. The community then belonged to the Rügen district in the Rostock district until 1990 and became part of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the same year. The district of Rügen, which has been called this again since 1990, was merged in 2011 in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.
On January 1, 2011, the previously independent municipality with the districts Thesenvitz, Lipsitz, Ramitz and Ramitz settlement was incorporated into Bergen on Rügen. The community had an area of 9.65 km² and 399 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2009). Before it was incorporated, the municipality was administered by the Bergen auf Rügen office based in the city of the same name.
