Thierry Grass

Thierry Grass (* 1960 in Belfort ) is a French linguist and terminologist . He teaches translation and terminology at the University of Strasbourg , Institut de Traducteurs, d'Interprètes et de Relations Internationales (ITIRI) .

Life

From 1980 to 1986, Grass studied German , literature , computational linguistics and law at the universities of Strasbourg, Erlangen-Nuremberg and Besançon . He also trained as a reserve officer for translation and interpreting for the French army . From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Bayreuth and from 1990 to 1994 at the University of Augsburg . There he created the course-related training for subject-specific foreign language training : French for lawyers for students of the law faculty. In February 1996 he received his doctorate with a thesis on La traduction juridique bilingue français-allemand :problemématique et résolution des ambiguïtés terminologiques under the direction of Prof. Jacques François at the University of Nancy . From 1996 to 1998, Grass was seconded by the French Foreign Ministry as a lecturer in information and communication science at the University of Freiburg . From 1998 to 2007 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Tours at the Institute for German Studies, where he introduced the Law Linguist course . During this time he was also delegated to the Laboratoire de Linguistique Informatique of the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in order to conduct research on object classes under the direction of Gaston Gross after working with the meaning-text model . In 2002, Grass completed his habilitation in German studies and literature on the subject of lexical databases for translation at the University of Grenoble under the direction of Prof. Klaus Morgenroth.

Since September 2007, Grass has been a lecturer at the University of Strasbourg for translation (German - French) and terminology for the Department of Applied Linguistics , Computational Linguistics and the Institute for Translation, Interpreting and International Relations. In this position he is also responsible for the master’s degree courses in Translation and Interpreting and Computational Linguistics and Translation in the Department of Languages ​​and Applied Social Sciences. In addition to his teaching, he worked on the creation of the lexical database for proper names Prolexbase and helped with the investigation of translation tools in Strasbourg (Fonctionnement Discursif et Traduction, EA 1339, LiLPa).
