Thilo Daniel

Thilo Daniel (* 1967 in Lich ) is an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and church historian . As the Oberlandeskirchenrat, he has been the permanent deputy of the regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony since February 2019 and took over his duties from Carsten Rentzing's resignation until the appointment of his successor on February 29, 2020. He is also a member of the Bishops' Conference of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (VELKD).

Life

Thilo Daniel grew up in Grünberg near Gießen and, after graduating from high school in 1986, studied Protestant theology and comparative religious studies at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Georg August University of Göttingen . In 1993 he passed the First Theological Examination. This was followed by participation in the graduate college of the Institute for European History in Mainz .

In 1998 Daniel started the church preparatory service in the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony. From 1998 to 2000 he was visiting vicar in Dresden- Briesnitz and Dresden-Neustadt. During this time he also completed his doctorate on Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf . After the second theological exam in the Saxon regional church, Daniel was ordained and worked as a priest in the trial service in the church district of Meißen ( Weistropp with Gauernitz - Constappel and Unkersdorf ).

In 2007 Thilo Daniel moved to the regional church office . In Department I for fundamental theological issues, ecumenism and world missions, he was the senior church councilor theological advisor until 2014. From 2015 to 2018 Daniel was the rector of Ev.-Luth. Diakonissenanstalt Dresden e. V. Since 2019 he has been a department head (head) in the rank of higher regional church council in department I of the regional church office and in this office he is permanent deputy of the regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Thilo Daniel has been married to a musicologist since 1995 and lives in Dresden.
