Thilo von Trotha (speech writer)

Thilo von Trotha (born May 19, 1940 in Gera ) is a German lawyer and speechwriter.

Career

Trotha grew up in Weimar. In 1955 he came to Germany as a political refugee without parents. After graduating from high school in Hanover , he studied law at the universities of Bonn and Koblenz and received his doctorate in Cologne in 1971 . During his legal traineeship he worked, among other things, as a speechwriter for members of the German Bundestag . After the second state examination, he served as a personal assistant to a state secretary in a federal ministry.

In 1974 he moved to the Federal Chancellery and worked until 1980 in the “writing room”, as the speechwriting group of the German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt was called. As Helmut Schmidt's speechwriter, von Trotha claimed to be the inventor of the so-called " gossip ", a statistical speech analysis . His bosses (= head of the office) were u. a. Armin Halle and Christian Bauer. Since 1981 he has been working as a speechwriter with his own agency for personalities from industry, business and politics.

To train speechwriters, Trotha founded the Academy for Speechwriters in 1990 and together with other speechwriters founded the Association of Speechwriters in the German Language (VRdS) in Bonn in 1998 , of which he remained President until May 2006. Today the association has 450 freelance and salaried speechwriters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In January 2009 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services to the promotion of speech culture and democracy in Germany . The debating clubs at schools and universities, which are increasingly establishing themselves all over Germany and have been funded by both the Hertie Foundation and the Zeit Foundation for years , are among other things. a. back on his initiative.

He is a member of the board of trustees of forum thomanum Leipzig eV and the Corps Borussia Bonn .
