Thomas-Michael Radda

Thomas-Michael Radda (born July 21, 1951 in Hollabrunn ) is an Austrian ophthalmologist and associate professor in Vienna . He was one of the first ophthalmologists in Austria to use refractive surgery for the surgical treatment of ametropia . Since September 1994 he has been the head of the eye department at the Ost - Donauspital Social Medical Center . In addition to this position, Radda also runs his own ophthalmological surgery center with an ordination together with his son Stephan Radda.

Career

Thomas-Michael Radda graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium Hollabrunn on May 14, 1969 and completed his medical studies at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate on June 1, 1976. He then worked as a university assistant at the Department of Tumor Immunology at the Institute for Cancer Research. He performed his military service in the Van Swieten barracks in Stammersdorf .

From 1976 to 1978 Radda worked at the I. Medical University Clinic Vienna with Erwin Deutsch . He then completed his ophthalmological training at the I. University Eye Clinic Vienna under Heinz Freyler . In 1980 a stay at an eye department in Andhra Pradesh (India) followed. After his return he was senior physician at the chief ward of the I. University Eye Clinic from 1982 to 1985 . In the meantime he completed his training as a specialist in ophthalmology in 1983 and completed his habilitation in 1984. Three years later he became head of the outpatient department for diabetic retinopathy , and was appointed associate professor in 1991.

A scientific focus of Radda is the development of new methods of refractive surgery. He has been performing laser operations on myopia since 1993 . In addition, he has specialized in the surgical treatment of horror and glaucoma specialized also in the treatment of age-related retinal calcification and diabetic eye changes .

Radda is married and has three children.

Offices and memberships

Radda was chairman and advisory board member of the Vienna Primary Physicians College from 2003 to 2007 and chairman of the Austrian primary ophthalmologists from 2005 to 2013. Since 2013 he has been President of the Austrian Ophthalmological Society (ÖOG), the professional representative of Austrian ophthalmologists. He is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Austrian Academy for Ophthalmology and Optometry. He is also a member of the German Ophthalmological Society , the European Society for Lens Implantation, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Austrian Diabetes Society. In addition, Radda is chairman and secretary of the Austrian commission for specialist examinations and a member of the commissions for refractive surgery as well as cataract and IOL of the ÖOG.

He wrote around 180 scientific publications and gave more than 90 lectures at national and international specialist conferences and congresses.

Awards

In 1982 and 1984 Radda received a science award from the Austrian Ophthalmological Society.
