Thomas D. Finley

In March, Thomas D. Finley had his soldiers cross the Rhine near Sankt Goar under German fire in an assault boat .

Thomas Dewees Finley (born June 2, 1895 in Annapolis , Maryland , † December 19, 1984 in Colorado Springs , Colorado ) was an American officer .

Finley took part in the Battles of St. Mihiel (September 1918) and in the Vosges Mountains with the 7th Engineers of the 3rd Division during World War I.

In 1931 he married Constance Bonner Bissell and had two children.

From February 1943 until the end of World War II he was under George S. Patton Commander with the rank of Major General of the 89th Infantry Division of the United States (part of the Third United States Army ). In March his division crossed the Rhine near Sankt Goar , and on April 4, 1945 they overran the Ohrdruf forced labor camp .

In 1946 he retired.
