Thomas Egger (politician, 1959)

Thomas Egger (born December 20, 1959 in Sterzing ) is a South Tyrolean politician.

Egger completed a degree in law offered jointly by the Universities of Innsbruck and Padua , which he completed in 1985 with a thesis on corporate law written in Italian . He then worked briefly as a secondary school teacher in Sterzing, and later in the land registry offices of Bozen, Brixen and Sterzing. He has been an independent entrepreneur since 1998 .

From 1990 to 2000 Egger was Vice Mayor and Assessor in Sterzing, from 2000 to 2005 Mayor of the city. In 2005 Egger decided to withdraw from community politics and to leave the South Tyrolean People's Party .

In 2008 he was elected to the South Tyrolean state parliament for the Freedom Party and at the same time to the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol . On June 4, 2013, after falling out with the leadership of the Freedom Party , Egger founded his own party and parliamentary group called Wir Südtiroler . In the 2013 state elections , he ran on a joint list of Wir Südtiroler , the BürgerUnion and the Ladins , but missed re-election with the second most preferential votes behind Andreas Pöder .
